It’s always nice to write new stories and see history made, so Messi finally winning the WC was great but I want more, the fans want excitement and upsets so when will we get that?

The last new nation to win either was Portugal in Euro 2016 I think, and its definitely the tournament that lends itself to more potential for a brand new winner. But what about the world cup, when will we see a new country win it? is it one of those impossible to tell things as it just happens when it happens?

I feel like the Euros will get a new winner next year, England.

depends on how you define upset victories, because not all upset victories are exciting, like when Greece won Euro 2004 due to playing ultra defensive football and getting smash and grab victories.

though, I don’t think we will see any of it soon, France are the heavy favorites to win the whole thing in 2024 and they look damn prepared for it.

as of 2026 WC, anything’s possible, but expanding the tournament to 48 teams will help the big teams progress easily due to weak competition in group stage.

If England ever decide to hire a competent manager, then the Euros would certainly be achievable.
