I don’t think people are appreciating just how easy it is to play our offense - especially for a good defense. We saw it with the 49ers and we just saw it today.

This isn’t to say that Kenny couldn’t be better, there’s a handful of throws the last couple games that absolutely should have been better.

But here comes the but - BUT I would claim it is currently impossible for ANY quarterback to excel in our system. It is legitimately that bad. Defenses know 90% of the routes and schemes. They can get instant pressure on most downs with many downs with outright blocking errors.

But even beyond those issues here’s a few more:

Our receivers don’t get open. You can look at the data to see how bad it is - lack of separation is abysmal. This is also a combination of scheme and timing. If you’re a DB facing the Steelers and you don’t expect a curl or hook on the edge then you’ve never seen a minute of film on our offense.

It’s very possible Kenny is throwing hurt. And it’s also important for people to realize that his last minute throw aways sometimes look like viable passes. This goes back to his college tape, if you’ve never seen it.

But moreover - he’s looked worse the last few games (if not this whole season) than the back half of last season. That level of regression is so very unlikely. What’s much more likely is that he’s mid-tier quarterback that’s been completely stunted by our system. And made to look worse and worse as we fail to adapt and evolve the offense into…anything resembling an NFL offense. There are literally a hundred college programs with better run offensive units.

People need to understand how QBs succeed in this league - because it’s not making something out of nothing, it’s delivering/executing inside a competent scheme which actually functions in the NFL. I encourage everyone who usually watches just the Steelers to go watch some other team’s complete games. The first 5 seconds after snap is night and day from the steelers to almost any other team. That goes for protection, immediate separation, route style, getting off the line - on and on.

Now Kenny has some drawbacks and it’s very possible that he’s already hit his ceiling. But I would argue he’s playing well below his ceiling at the moment and the main reason for that is steaming turd that is the offensive coaching and organization. It can not be understated how gobsmackingly bad it is. It has been bad for longer than Canada, but boy has he made is markedly worse. Just because we’ve won a remarkable amount of games doesn’t mean it hasn’t been a dumpster fire - like fire everyone level dumpster fire. But that some of you guys fail to understand this and instead are laying so much blame on our QB1 is unacceptable. He’s deserves some blame. But within the context of our offense he honestly deserves very little and could very likely be a solid quarterback if given a real opportunity.

I think he’s playing below his ceiling even though I don’t think he’s got what it takes to be a starter. My issue is that I think his ceiling is more like 20th in the league, or maybe 15th on a good day. He’s currently around 25th, maybe a smidge lower, when you look at passing stats.

Basically, he may have room for improvement, but how much can he realistically improve? He isn’t young or a raw talent/project QB, so I just don’t see much room for growth.
