We’ve all experienced that moment playing a game that was a fairly linear experience and then it opens up to a much larger world to explore.
I’ve run into these awesome moments across so many games such as finally stepping out of the vault in Fallout 4 or leaving Kamiki Village for the first time in Okami. Even recently playing Super Mario Bros Wonder, finishing World 1 only to step out and see the larger world map was so cool.
The one that always sticks out for me though is Zelda Ocarina of Time and stepping out into Hyrule Field after finishing the Deku Tree dungeon. That shit was magical to 12 year old me. It felt like anything was possible after that.
So, what are your favorite ‘step into the wide world’ moments?
Has to be Oblivion for me. Or at least that’s the most significant one that I remember early on. I had never played an open world game before so I didn’t even know worlds like this were possible. I mean I’d played GTA Vice City before but that somehow felt different than something like this
Not exactly “step into the wide world”, but after finishing phase one of inscription
Hard to beat oot but wow takes the cake because there were 10 different original wide world intros.
