Trust me, the loss today was just as big of a gut punch for me too. But in reflecting more, this is big for 2 main reasons.
1 - Flus & our staff get fired after 2023: Poles came to Chicago and said we’re gonna take the north and never give it back. Since then, we haven’t won a divisional game (0-9). Poles absolutely cannot seriously move forward into 2024 with while keeping this coaching staff here, without seriously risking his own job. If we win the Lions game today, Flus has legit case to make that we’re turning things around with this staff and they just need more time. This is the breaking point. 2 - Our draft position improves: This loss, paired with the Giants win gives us the ability to trade back from 1, get a massive haul, while still being within striking distance of MHJ. Look at all the 4 win teams - I know the loss hurts now, but in April we’ll be glad.
JF1 looked great, and I also understand that at some point this team needs to learn how to win, but this coaching staff is inept and we’ll get there next year once we clean house. Until then, Bear down.
Yeah it doesn’t get much worse. I’d say I feel better about the future than when Trestman came in. I moved away from Chicago before that and when they hired John Fox I was like, yeah this isn’t going to go well and basically took 2 years off. 2018 reeled me back in and after that press conference where they kept Ryan and Matt , I threw in the towel.
Justin Fields gets drafted and my hope was restored, only to get another incompetent Matt. I’m more optimistic about the talent that’s building and Eberflus is like a wet blanket.
