What game had areas, weapons, moves, etc that you didn’t even know existed until you already beat the game or until it was too late?
For me it was Super Metroid on SNES. Apparently there is a bunch of special or secret moves Samus can do to refill her health and such or gain unique abilities such as an ice shield.
I had probably played through the game two or three times as a kid before learning about these.
I played hundreds and hundreds of hours of TF2 both casually and competitively, practicing for hours a day, watching my replays, having higher skilled friends coach me, and eventually my team even won a ugc badge, i thought i had figured it all out and was really getting somewhere… only to realize the whole entire time I was supposed to be buying and selling hats and acting like a degenerate in trade servers
To be fair, they show you some of those moves in the demo after you beat the game.
I didn’t know how to get the final capsule (or that it even existed) in Megaman X (the hadouken) until years after I beat it as a kid.
I played battlefield 1 for like 2 years before realizing I could use one of my most used weapons (i think it was the cei-reigott) in full auto. I always thought the gun was semi auto only
I had no idea there was an upside down world in Castlevania until recently. Thought I finished the game years ago
I got a PS1 as a gift as a 6 year old kid but no games except a Demo Disc that came with the box.
The main menu was a grid of thumbnail videos for each game demo.
it had demos of Crash Bandicoot 2, Armored Core, Tomb Raider 2, Parappa the Rapper and a bunch of other gamesIt was all I played for a while and it became a cherished childhood memory.
Fast forward years later as a teenager I found the old demo disc in my old stuff and decided to pop it in my PS2 for nostalgia’s sake. Everything was like I remembered it but somehow I accidentally pressed R1.
The thumbnail icon rotated! I never knew you could do that. I thought to myself what a neat trick. Intuitively I tried spinning all of the thumbnails in the grid.
To my shock, 2 of the thumbnails had some kind of button combination code behind them. I tried inputting the codes and it blew my mind.
All those years I didn’t know there were actually 2 hidden game demos on the disc!! (Colony Wars and Fighting Force) i wished I could’ve told my younger self He would’ve had more fun.
I didn’t realize the first uncharted had lock-on until the penultimate level lol.
FF16. Played through the game. Mad I couldn’t do anything with the chocobo other than killing the wild ones. Was later informed there was a side quest that let me tame and RIDE them.
Even more mad now.
for me it was probably playing through elden ring without realising you can increase your talisman count
The Metro 2033 karma system, I beat the game without knowing it.
Skyrim’s DLCs, there’s nothing showing or implementing that it’s DLCs
