I feel like this was the game in which Kenny lost the fan base. I’ve been watching Steeler games since 92. It’s been a while (thanks to Ben), but us old heads remember how cruel Steeler fans can be when the quarterback sucks. From rumors of Neil O’Donnell having gambling debts to talk of Kordell Stewart in a parking lot to tales of people taking shits in the front yard of Tommy Maddox, it gets ugly once this fan base turns on you. My older brother still yells out in his sleep about some guy named Mark Malone. Considering how Kenny was riding high coming into this season, likely picturing a long career as the franchise quarterback, this has to seem like a far fall from what he had envisioned. Feel bad for the guy. Class act. Too bad that doesn’t get folks into the end zone.

Dude. Steelers fans know never to mention the name of M.M. And yes O’Donnell owed the devil for something throwing those two INT’s to Larry Brown in Super Bowl XXX.

Kenny lost both the fan base and the team yesterday. Everyone in the locker room knows they can’t win with him. The fans put up with Kenny because there were some wins but the wins are going to dry up real quick when teams start stacking the line and daring him to throw.

My dad always said Bubby had THEE best bounce pass. MJ himself would have been jealous.

It’s too bad because it seems like he works really hard and is a reasonably good leader.

But those things are the things that separate the average guys from the above average guys IMO.

The thing that separates the below average guys from the average guys seems to be the ability to find the open guy and make accurate throws. And Kenny has been struggling with both of these things pretty hard this season.

Maybe there’s a way he turns the corner and becomes average. But there isn’t much evidence for that yet IMO.

Hopefully a new OC next season will help. But this isn’t just an OC problem (although I think OC is certainly part of the problem).

It’s not 100% fair to grade him when he has the albatross of Canada around his neck. However, he doesn’t succeed when the opportunities present themselves. Between the two men, it’s a chicken-and-the-egg situation.

I say make chicken and eggs for breakfast.

Tbh I’d have lined Boz up for a 62 yard FGA before that last punt. With our punter’s inability to drop one deep it couldn’t have been any worse.

On SNF they were talking about how the Vikings coach (OC?) was essentially walking Dobbs though every single play in real time over the headset. It made me think, damn, what would it be like if KP had someone that competent?

It’s amusing that in hindsight Kordell is our 3rd best QB ever.

Unfortunately it’s very rare to go from one franchise qb to another immediately. We might be in for some long seasons before we find our guy

I think Kenny was more hurt after the 4th&1 sneak than they let on. Not that he was playing well before that, but he looked significantly worse afterwards. Not having a back up you can trust or playcalling to avoid getting Kenny pummeled are big problems too.

I feel bad for him because of the whole Pitt thing.

Picture basically any college quarterback who didn’t work out in the NFL going back to their college town.

Tebow goes to Gainesville, and he is a king.

    Johnny Football in College Station.

    Vince Young in Austin.

No one cares that they sucked as pros. But Kenny will be deprived of that.

IIRC, Josh Allen didn’t become “elite” until year 3. We won’t be bad enough to get a top pick, so I’m open to seeing what Kenny can do with a competent OC next year (hopefully). I’d at least afford him that opportunity.

However, he is missing far too many throws and seems to not be able to read defenses. He also holds onto the ball for far too long, and doesn’t use his legs to extend drives enough.

Kenny said that they didn’t expect a lot of zone coverage. Matt Canada stuck with the gameplan of attacking man coverage. Can’t scheme right, can’t play right. Also, the Steelers need a new qb coach.

I don’t. This is a hard job that pays well (even at rookie contract wages). If I was this bad at my job I would have been canned by now. No different. Nothing against him, but it’s time to move on.

It’s going to be hard to figure out what Kenny can be without a new OC. I think we know what we are getting with this style of offense, and I also think we can wait to see if he can improve his mechanics and reads this year until we have a new system in place. I heard that Chargers HC isn’t long for the job, and there will be a coaching carousel. I think we’ve seen the dysfunction of this offense and how hard it is to make it go. We need a better scheme to lighten the QB load.
