I usually put it in M/S and drive with paddle shifts. Makes the rides quite fun even if it’s just a '17 420d

I’m an eco mode hound. I do a lot of highway driving for work. I can’t get a ticket. Cruise control and eco mode. Getting almost 24 mpg in the m40i in the mountains. 32 with my 330i. Sport mode only for twisty roads or road positioning to make exits.

Knew the manual boys would have to comment on this one.

The shift lever accomplishes the same.

Times when the wheel is turned and a paddle is not in good reach, I use the shift lever.

Though using the lever, up shifts are down while down shifts are up.

    Like, wtf BMW.

I’m all about taking over shifting duties in Sport+

    It’s a potent hit.

The n55 is pretty thirsty so it’s pretty rare I’m not in comfort or eco pro. I’ll go into sport for an on ramp or a light every now and then, or a twisty country road.

I drove in comfort 99% of the time. I only use Sport and Sport+ when I need to navigate traffic on the highway or am enjoying some twisty roads

I drive mine in sport mode all the time mostly because it is the only way to disable the automatic engine cutoff at idle. “You won’t notice it with the mild hybrid” is how it was pitched. My ass.

I find it really pretentious when people needlessly use manual shifting in an automatic trans, unless it’s for dropping gears to decelerate, such as when exiting a freeway.

S mode shifting automatically is annoying for daily driving. only put it over and go into Manual mode.
