Top 5 graded players:

  1. Alex Anzalone (90.3)
  2. David Montgomery (89.5)
  3. Amon-Ra St. Brown (81.5)
  4. Frank Ragnow (77.3)
  5. Penei Sewell (77.1)

Bottom 5 graded players:

  1. Jack Campbell (44)
  2. Colby Sorsdal (45.4)
  3. Jared Goff (47.6)
  4. Jerry Jacobs (52)
  5. Brock Wright (53.7)

Positive Notes:

  • Offensive line, outside of Sorsdal, were just completely dominant. Ragnow and Sewell mentioned above were awesome. But Glasgow also put up a 72.3 and Decker was solid with a 69. Just another great performance by the O-Line. Ragnow is now PFF’s highest graded Center, Sewell is the 2nd highest graded Tackle, Glasgow is the 5th highest graded Guard. Just a dominant offensive line
  • Alex Anzalone had a day! This was his highest graded game of the season. He was awesome in coverage with a 90 coverage grade on 5 targets. Much better tackling performance as well as he only missed 1 tackle. He has risen up to the 18th graded LB this season.
  • David Montgomery revenge game! This was his highest graded game of the season and this is now back to back weeks with a grade over 86. He’s been awesome since coming back from the injury and is now the 7th highest graded RB in football.
  • Gibbs also had a very solid game, posting a 71.4 overall grade. Out of all rookie running backs that have played at least 50 snaps, PFF has him ranked #1 on the season. The last 4 weeks he has really taken another step
  • Jameson Williams continues to show improvement. Yet again setting a new high grade on the season for him with a 69.6. He is slowly but surely building confidence and the drops (even though it is limited targets) seem to be slowing down. A confident Jameson Williams can make this offense dangerous
  • Amon-Ra St. Brown with another dominant performance. Nothing new there. He is now PFF’s 5th highest graded receiver this season
  • I don’t know who the hell Quinton Bohanna is to be honest with you. This is the first time I have even heard that name surprisingly. But a 66.1 grade is not too shabby
  • Cam Sutton had a decent bounce back game after 3 horrendous games in a row. A 60.9 is nothing special but he was grading in the 30’s and 40’s the last 3 weeks so we’ll take it.

Negative Notes:

  • Outside of Tracy Walker and Branch. The secondary didn’t play very well yet again. Kerby Joseph (59.3) continues to struggle and Jerry Jacobs had an uncharacteristically bad game (52)
  • After two ok performances in a row, Jack Campbell was horrible. 3 missed tackles and was pretty bad in coverage. So it was disappointing to see that
  • Still no real help at Edge rusher outside of Hutchinson. Rome Okwara was decent on limited snaps, but Paschal (55.6) and Cominsky (62.1) weren’t great. So still looking for more production with the pass rush
  • I honestly don’t know what to make of this, cause I have no idea how PFF grades punters. But Jack Fox had a sub-60 game and I bring that up because he has been graded pretty Mediocre the entire season. He is the 15th ranked punter according to PFF. Do with that info what you will, cause I don’t know how they come to that conclusion.
  • Raymond and Reynolds continue to fall off a bit as the season goes on. For Raymond, I think some of it has to do with Jameson Williams seeing an increase in snaps because Raymond didn’t even play enough snaps to qualify this week. He has seen his snaps continue to go down. Reynolds isn’t a liability or anything, but he is clearly not playing as well as he was earlier in the season.

Detroit Lions PFF rankings for the season:

Overall - 5th

Offense - 1st

Passing - 5th

Pass Blocking - 2nd

Receiving - 6th

Running - 6th

Run Blocking - 1st

Defense - 16th

Run Defense - 2nd

Tackling - 17th

Pass Rush - 19th

Coverage - 24th

Special Teams - 19th

It’s clear where the weakness of this team is, but it’s still an awesome offense to watch. Even with Goff playing as bad as he played, this offense can turn it on when they need to. Time to get ready for the Packers!

Anzalone is never going to be a perfect open field tackler, but he’s certainly improved and he’s been a stud in coverage

I really wish we would’ve taken a chance on Banks or Kancey instead of drafting Campbell, it seems for every 1-2 good plays he has like 5 plays where he’s a liability
