Mike Tomlin is currently not under contract for the 2025 season.
It has been 13 seasons since his last Super Bowl appearance.
It has been 7 seasons since his last playoff win.
He has a losing postseason record overall.
He has had multiple All-Pro and Hall of Fame players over that span of time, on both side of the ball.
Indulge me. Some give me a rational argument why Mike Tomlin is the only human being on the face of the earth who could possibly coach the Pittsburgh Steelers.
And if you bring up, “never had a losing season”, you lose internet points. Being the best-worst team is not an argument to make $10,000,000.00 USD a year while getting out gained every single game in a season.
I don’t argue with anyone who sets parameters on what I can and cannot say in response to their original argument.
That being said, I will say that I think a lot of people take Tomlin for granted and don’t seem to understand how hard it is to win on a regular basis in the NFL.
There’s a reason guys like Sean Payton keep getting jobs. There’s a lot of bad coaches in the NFL. There’s very few great ones.
And of the ones who are great, very few of them win championships with multiple QBs over multiple decades.
So the question becomes: does the owner think Mike Tomlin is capable of being one of those coaches? If yes, then there’s no reason to move on. If no, then it’s time to consider moving on.
But we have to all be cognizant of the fact that this team would be WAAAAAAAY worse with some of the dregs of the NFL coaching world as head coach.
The other question is…do you trust Art II to hire a competent replacement? I sure as fuck don’t.
