When growing up I remember teens used to love converse shoes, it was kinda like their white air forces when I was growing up now I was wondering if I should get a pair or if the brands fallen into irrelevance or for a reason such as not being comfy etc. (shoes would be to skateboard in and general use)

I have many expensive shoes and still choose to wear black or white chucks sometimes depending on the situation.

The great thing about inexpensive sneakers is that it really is an accessory to your total fit and look. Not the focus. Wearing inexpensive sneakers with an otherwise stylish fit is a fashion statement.
You can also buy more varieties of inexpensive sneakers. Or many copies of the same sneaker so it always looks clean. Think, Steve Jobs or Mark Puckerberg.
I stopped wearing mine because when it rained I would likely slip due to the poor grips.
