Hello hello,
I want to learn about the prices of embedded CPUs in the 90s and 00s such as the 68K, V60, i960, PowerPC (601-7410), SuperH, MIPS R4200, ARM7, etc.
Of course, anything bought at scale is negotiated with an account manager and specific deals aren’t made public. But I’m curious about trends, market positioning, and the rationale behind certain component choices in games consoles, STBs, routers, or PDAs.
I think a small minority of press releases found on the Internet Archive include tray pricing. If anyone knows of things like “1000 603s in 1995 cost $foo each” then that’s what I’m looking for. And if the comments include discussions on why the Sega Saturn should have used an i960 or 603 instead of 2x SH-2s, even better.
Thanks for your time.
