People can try to pin blame on any player or coach, but the reality is the biggest issue by far is ownership. They are cheap as fuck and refuse to ever pay the tax/ legitimately try to improve the team.
Taking away Lonzo’s money and this team has spent $143M on contracts for players who will play this year. That would put them 21st in spending in the league. The teams below them: Rockets, Wizards, Jazz, Pistons, Hornets, Magic, Pacers,Thunder, Spurs.
All garbage teams/ teams trying to leave a rebuild. None of them are trying to seriously contend like the Bulls are right now.
This team never had any chance to do a thing with how ownership runs it paired with Lonzo’s injury.
If ownership wasn’t going to spend real money and go into the tax, they had to rebuild or at minimum retool around Zach.
The Reinsdorfs are easily some of the worst ownership groups in sports history. Take away MJ and it’s comical how bad the Sox and Bulls have been under his ownership.
How someone can watch these last two games and say we should “retool” around Zach is incredible.
It’s pretty apparent to me that this is a “three alpha” kind of year where we’re going to tread water until inevitably blowing it up. It should have happened much sooner, but the fact we haven’t traded any future assets or anything of value signals to me AKME understands this core is going nowhere.
It makes zero since to go into the tax with this roster.
Yeah the problem with Zach is his skills. He is a great shooter and very athletic, that’s it. It works with below average defenders but with better defense, specially team defense, he can’t do shit since he has zero ball handling skills, no play making skill, no defense and low bbiq. I really don’t like DeRozan either but at least DeRozan can control a tempo or the game, very good handles and can operate the space in the middle with ok playmaking. I just don’t like that the game is very slow with him on the floor, as I prefer run and gun.
