I recently got myself a thinkcentre , pretry ok specced but will be gettig some upgrades in near future with ram and storange in form om a Qnap 4bay usb hardisk “nas” for saving my plex media files. Also putting in some internal drives and m2’s.

I am currently running ubuntu desktop whit vm HA which is the linux i am most faniliar with but just beyond the noob phase, starting to get the hang o mf unfucking myself in terminal when shit does not work anymorw. Thats about my level with it.

My main goal whit this server is primarilly running home assistan adguard, Sonare, radarr, plex server, also client for playing media as it is connected to my avr system. And on sight maybe host sone webpages etc, i like to keet the door open for adding and custonizing later.

Im have had some issues whit HA aFter som ubuntu system updates and fo me its a headace. So i am Loking for more stable solutuin where i can host theese thing secure and easy to maintaing

Any suggestins what paht to choose? I see now ubuntu is not the beste os for this, grest performance but just not suitet for my needs.

I have seen som options: (please correct me if im wrong)

-HAOS, stripped down os fr only HA, possible to runn addons for HA, but that i tink i is, ’

-deabian with support for HA and ability to run anyting nativeli in debisan for server maybe a bit better rhan ubuntu as it runs virtualized on there

-proxmox / docker erc, dont know mu of this but i read ther is no say easy to restore my current HA setup/config easly over to it.

Big thanks to any help/suggestions, if any question please feel fre to ask

Sorry about any typos, english not my main language and it also freally late in night here.

I’d be running everything under proxmox to isolate each application. I have a very similar Nuc8 and run Home Assistant supervised under proxmox which installs and runs smoothly…as well as windows 11 and Ventura hackintosh VM’s…plus lots of other stuff. (note: I just bought a used M720q to use as a homelab in another location…and will put in an internal dual 2.5g NIC card)
