The Memphis Grizzlies are currently selling tickets for as low as $2 per seat. They are averaging the 5th worst attendance in the league at 16, 833 which is worse than half of the Vancouver Grizzlies seasons almost 30 years ago when average attendance league wide was much lower than now.

Am I still petty that Memphis took our team? Absolutely.

But I can also guarantee you’d be hard pressed to find tickets to a Vancouver NBA game for the price of a quarter of a water at Rogers Arena. Not to mention I’m positive that Vancouver could do better than the 5th worst attendance in the league.

I look forward to seeing salty Memphis fans in my DMs, but just remember you would be frustrated too if a worse market stole you’re NBA team, and then showed poor support to an actually talented team.

Yeah okay, you can be upset that we took your team & at Steve Francis, but saying “oh look their attendance is bad, they don’t deserve their team” is completely ignoring the fact that the team is currently absurdly injured and in a small population city. Idk what basketball you want to watch, but we’re currently starting:

    • A 5’7” G league point guard who our fans over the summer weren’t even sure would ever see meaningful nba minutes

    • a center signed off the free agent market out of desperation who, in his 13 seasons of the nba, has only broken 24 MPG twice: his sophomore season, and year 13: the current season (14 mpg last 2 seasons for reference)

    • a borderline all-star level shooting guard who is clearly out of his depth being the only person who can do anything on offense

    • legit a random wing or big who probably wouldn’t make the 8 man rotation on any healthy, non-wizards/pistons teams

    • Reigning DPOY playing a lot of minutes out of his natural position

The team is more crippled than Jimmy from South Park. Our injury list could probably have a better record than our current rotation. Also: the 2019 warriors were 6th in attendance; when Steph & Klay got hurt for 2020, they dropped to 16th. We were 22nd the last 2 seasons, 27th now with all the injuries. We will go back up some when Ja returns. Despite our injuries and small city size, it seems there’s 3 other teams who somehow have less attendance than us still.

It’s very revealing about the demographics of this subreddit that your argument for why Memphis should not have an NBA team is that the tickets are affordable.

The league could benefit from up to SIX expansion teams. Lots of talent to go around? Enough point guards? Well, only way to find out.

Good to hear that there are still lots of NBA fans in Vancouver, BC. As a Grizzlies fan, umm, not sure why some cities have teams and others don’t. Could have been worse – the Grizzlies could have ended up in Louisville.

I think Vancouver, BC would perfectly complement Seattle (expansion team). I also like the idea of the NBA invading the Montreal sports market.

Austin, TX has no major big 4 sports team. They deserve one. But, honestly if the Grizzlies relocate, the Spurs maybe should relocate to Austin.

Las Vegas deserves a team (maybe). Although they should have been the FIRST pro sports league out there, now they are looking into an over-saturated sports market.

If the Grizzlies don’t relocate, Nashville could be a great market for an NBA expansion team.

Beat the NFL (and everyone else) to 36 teams.

Two conferences with 18 teams. Two divisions of 9 teams in each conference.

Can you imagine the expansion drafts?

… as a Memphis Grizzlies fan, I am getting a bit tired with our Front Office. The team is also gonna try to shake us down for new improvements. Although, secretly, I think they want a brand-new arena. One of the local radio guys accidentally brought this up a few months ago.

IF Memphis lost the Grizz BUT got a new expansion team a few years from now, I would almost be cool with that – even though I am still on Ja Morant Island (bought the T shirt AND have the shoes).

“Trade” the Grizzlies to Las Vegas but retire the name (let Vancouver have it back). Send us the Athletics (but let the name stay in Oakland), and the Raiders – the MEMPHIS RAIDERS sounds great!

Vegas gets new NFL and NBA expansion teams soon.

Memphis also gets an NBA expansion team soon as well as a WNBA team.

I think ALL the major leagues should have at least 34 to 36 teams. And, I think having at least 2 teams/leagues in any particular market offers synergistic upside. … easier to get state funds/tax revenues for MULTIPLE teams.

Ja Morant in Las Vegas would be fun. But, maybe we do need a Vancouver Grizzlies team again. Memphis can get a new team in a few years – and let the NEW ownership group fully fund a brand new arena. Maybe we can just promote our G League team name aka The Memphis Hustle. … maybe the FedEx Forum in Memphis can host the Las Vegas’ NBA team’s G League outpost in the mean time. Getting the Memphis Athletics and the Memphis Raiders would more than make up for not having an NBA team for a few seasons. It would also help the Memphis Tigers get some fans/momentum/hype back.

Is the grizzlies fan base this split? Half of you are Vancouver fans still angry and the other half are Memphis fans?

Last I checked Vancouver only supports winning teams. Canuck’s sure had shit crowds when they were losing the last ten years. What’s gonna happen if they comeback? Team gonna suck and nobody shows up?!

Grizzlies finalizing a new 25-year lease with the City. Sorry, but they’re not going anywhere. Memphis would be a dump without a pro sports team.
