I’m not worried about the No. 1 seed for several reasons. If they can somehow grab it, great. But really, the Dolphins and their fans should just worry about winning the division as early as possible. At 7-3 with a two-game lead over the Bills, here are the next four weeks scheduled for both teams:

Miami
@ Jets
@ Commanders
vs. Titans
vs. Jets

Buffalo
@ Eagles
BYE
@ Chiefs
vs. Cowboys

It is possible that, over this stretch, the Dolphins could clinch the division and lock in at least one home playoff game before they play their last three games (vs. Cowboys, @ Ravens, vs. Bills).

If the No. 1 seed is in play, awesome. Go for it. It would be amazing to have a guaranteed home playoff game as a reward for any playoff win. But if it comes down to that final week and the Dolphins have already won the division with no shot at the No. 1 seed… then rest up that final week and take that as a bye week. Let Buffalo hang a banner that says they swept Miami the year they won the division. I would love that de facto bye going into a playoff push where the Dolphins have a legit chance to win it all. We’ve seen how amazing the team looks when everyone is healthy and rested. It would be amazing to clinch so early in a year where lots of people picked the Fins to finish fourth.

    I bet we finish this stretch 10-4 and the Bills at 7-7. That puts us one win away (or one Bills loss away) from clinching the division. Makes the final 3 games intense week to week.

    I disagree miami is so much stronger when they are at home, from what I’ve seen they can’t handle it when they have to face the Eagles and bills as well as the cheifs away.

    To be honest we need the bills to lose every game coming up except for the cheifs game, that helps the dolphins get closer to having the number 1 seed

    Since we’re on the topic of seeds it’s absurd that only the top seed gets a bye. Either top two teams get a bye or nobody should. I’d rather see 3-4 teams get a bye if they expand playoffs than have just one team per conference get that advantage. Rant over.
