What do you guys think of this? It was a long read but I thought it was a bit harsh but mostly fair. This team definitely has been kinda lucky in recent years with how they win games.
To steal a line from Matt Williamson earlier this week…
Coaches like Tomlin and Harbaugh aren’t necessarily the best coaches when it comes to going out there and winning the game. But they are really, really good at finding a way to not lose it.
The steelers are obviously a very flawed team, currently. They are lucky to be 4-2. However, of any team in the NFL, they have the biggest upside. JPJ, appears to be a great corner who is getting to have more and more inpact. Another part of JPSs impact is he is sort of elevating Peterson. Letting the old guy take some more snaps off. Spend more time in the slot or as a free safety. Patrick only has enough gas left for 50% of a game. What was killing him was running him 80% of a game. Broderick same as a guard. Darnell washington great blocker who I hope to see getting nore use in the pass game. I’d love to see him doing some releases into screen passes. See that tree of a man past the linebackers with the ball. Banging his giant body into corners who he has 40-50 pounds on. Some corners he may have 80. I want to see more Najee used the same. Little dump passes past the line. Want to see a 190 pound corner try to tackle a 260 pound Najee with a full head of steam(I know he’s listed at 230, but I have eyes. No way he’s only 20 pounds heavier than Warren). Anyone remember wben we had the Bus and Pegram. Bus would wear them out, and peewee would out run them. May be able to do something similar with Najee and Warren. We are 4-2 and we’ve had arguably our 2nd most impacting defensive player out, Cam, and currently 2 of our 3 most impacting offensive players out Johnson and Muth. Johnson is back, Muth and Cam will be shortly. Otherwise we are a pretty healthy team. TJ has a few bumps and bruises, but he is not mortal. If you cut Watts legs off, he’d be out there on crutches still getting in the QBs grill. Kenny is getting nore comfortable. Herbig looks to be a satisfactory option to let TJ take a break now and again. Bad thing about having a young team, is inconsistency. Great thing about a young team, is the improvement comes quicker and the ceiling is higher. I also truly believe we trade for a corner soon. Hopefully Surtain. Surtain would be a perfect option for us, and it benefits the Broncos too. They are more than 3 years from being a serious contender. They have to realize Wilson is not the guy to take them to the promised land. Surtain has 2 years under contract, then will be expensive. Id like the kid from green bay, but he may cost to much. We have a very manageable schedule the next 3 weeks, with the only real test being Jacksonville who we match up well against. Also, Lawrence angered the football gods by insulting the terrible towel. The ghost of Myron Cope will be haunting his dreams tonight. Steelers are definitely trending the right direction.
I made it to this point – which is absolutely flawed logic – and quit because I can tell I’m going to disagree with everything after this dumbass point.
But his insistence on trying to win with defense and a methodical offense is just not a fit for the modern game.
According to this author, Tomlin and the Steelers should ignore the strength of the team, get rid of Cam Heyward/TJ Watt/Minkah and magically acquire the offensive equivalent of that triumvirate? How?
The idea that Tomlin was like “You know, fuck offense – let’s keep our best defensive players and win that way. Chiefs are calling to trade us Patrick Mahomes for TJ Watt? Nah fuck that. Ja’Marr Chase for Minkah? We don’t want it!”
In no world should Tomlin/Colbert/Khan/Rooney be blamed for leaning into the strength of their team. This is stupid.
