One of the big rule changes I’d like to see in football is the cracking down on cynical or tactical fouls by ensuring proper punishments for them. A yellow card is often meaningless late on in games and this encourages serious foul play. In situations where a player is away from another and they grab and pull purposely, there’s no mitigating factor, it’s just cheating and it spoils key moments and attacks.

Players committing these sorts of offences should receive a straight red as you can’t accidentally or innocently pull someone’s shirt in this way (slightly different if you’re shoulder to shoulder and jockeying someone but this difference could be interpreted easily).

I understand the reasons why players commit these but it’s a very poor reflection on officiating that there’s not enough to discourage this as it brings the game into disrepute (although referees seem to do that all the time these days).
