You don’t need speed to get separation. It’s not like Ridley was a burner here. But he ran crisp routes.

As i said in my reply. Part of the reason the scheme sucks is because it is limited to fit ridders field vision.

You get like 2 primary options and a check down at best. Everyone else is out there jus to block or run decoy stuff. So any data on seperation…the typr of routes run by our receivers is skewed / tainted.

Arthur Smith infatuation with efficiency probably hurts him here because he wont let guys run variety of routes because he knows its a waste and ridder can basically only play one area of the field at the time.

The players know it too as you see them away from the side of the field where the ball is mos the time unenthusiastically going through the motions.

Smith needs help with the offense yea. But right now he is just trying to do what he can with what he’s got as far as ridder. And its forcing him to take more chances and use trick plays and shit like that.

That type stuff goes against the core philosophy of the way the offense was last year and how it was with him in Tennessee…

So its not technically his system or coaching thats so fucking off… its a combination of several things and him trying to make the best out of a bad situation.

Basically asking him to run his offense effectively wjth ridder is asking him to turn water into wine.

The 2 dont jive / mix well. They took a chance on ridder and he doesnt fit the way they expected him to and it would involve making changes and investing more to even possibly be legit on offense with him.

At this point its better to invest in a guy with more potential and move on after this year.
