Now we’ve seen this with both the Suns and the Clippers . I don’t mean to suggest that these teams becoming good is necessarily why these terrible owners were forced to sell. However, in the case of Donald Sterling, he probably should have lost the team when he illegally moved them to LA in the 80s, or when he was sued by the US government for his terrible, and racist business practices in 2009.
However, in 2009 the Clippers were arguably the worst franchise in all of American sports. and I say “arguably” to mean, they had a really really good case to be the least valuable franchise in sports.
In 2014 the Clippers made the playoffs three years in a row, for the first time in their history.
The suns are a bit different as initially when Sarver took over in 04, the Suns were actually just entering a new high with Steve , and despite never making a finals, I’d still probably pick that as the best Suns team of all time and the one that really had the best chance at a title (in 07).
However, the Suns also had what I believe is the worst decade in their entire existence in the 2010s. Likewise, they weren’t really any good during Adam Silver’s ownership until they made the finals in 2021 and Sarver was forced to sell soon after.
Maybe I’m jumping the gun, but I feel like the Devos family has to be next with Orlando’s promising core.
