I wonder how HDR is implemented in SteamOS. You should normally put HDR brightness at max. I don’t know why you even get a brightness slider in HDR. There shouldn’t be one because in HDR you want something like Idk sun or lamps to have 1000nits maxed. With changing HDR brightness in settings, you technically have to change max luminance in games too.

Btw. PC games are not calibrated that amazingly like some PS5/XBOX games. I highly recommend, watching “GamingTech” (he shows HDR calibration of many games for LG C2/3, G2/3 and so on) or visit following website. It doesn’t have every game but it is still better than nothing. From my experience it has always worked for me.

Ori:

Many reviewers are praising Ori and the Will of the Wisps in HDR and use 1.00 brightness. 1.00 is actually max 2400 nits in this game so you should take 0.69 (nice) as base brightness for example. Else you miss details and etc.

Gamingtech says 0.71 for 1000nits. So just see if 0.71 looks better than 0.69 (nice) on your screen.

At 6:30 you see the settings, I mentioned:

Normally I go with Gamingtech recommended settings if he got some.

FF7 Remake:

From HDRgamer website:

https://www.hdrgamer.com/2022/01/final-fantasy-vii-remake-ps5-hdr-peak.html

Brightniss Slider should be at 6 (Deck OLED does 1000nits)

HDR Settings for it for Gamingtech: (It says 10 instead of 6)

Disclaimers:

I haven’t played FF7 Remake on my PC yet. I finished it on a PS4 Pro + HDR TV and there you didn’t have to calibrate in game if I remember correctly. I will try it out whenever my Deck arrives though.

I played Ori on my C2 with 0.66 (from Gamingtech) last year after getting my monitor.

If Gamingtech doesn’t have your desired game settings in HDR => go to HDRgamer.com, if this doesn’t have it either => you experiment yourself or search in Reddit.

Paper White:

is NORMALLY for UI-Brightness and if the developers haven’t f up anything in Windows version, it shouldn’t change Game’s MAX Luminance . It is just a preference. Just try it out in games you want.

Edit:

Metro Exodus:

PC version has a really bad HDR implementation compared to PS5 version. I had to tweak some settings in my C2’s settings (not Windows, TV’s settings) to “fix” the problem:

My deck should arrive today or on friday probably.

Is Deck OLED using HGiG in HDR or is it DTM? I hope it is HGiG. :P
