Thomas Tuchel on the German internationals: “I watched the games. The players returned healthy. I saw Leroy Sané yesterday and I saw Leon Goretzka. I had lunch with Thomas Müller. I’ll see the others today. We’ll do everything we can to make them feel good here, regardless of the experiences they had with the national team. The focus on Bayern is important.”

Tuchel on Sané’s red card against Austria: “I saw it coming. He couldn’t hold back any longer. We didn’t talk much about it. Of course that shouldn’t happen, but it can happen, it’s human nature. Leroy has my full trust. He is an absolute key player here”

Tuchel on playing on Friday night again after an international break: “It’s probably about TV rights. This is our second time on Fridays. Minjae Kim and Alphonso Davies only returned from their travels today. This is very, very unfortunate circumstances. But it shouldn’t be seen as an excuse. I don’t want to dwell on it. We decided to travel to Köln tomorrow so that the players could sleep at home tonight. We want to win and we will prepare that way.”

Tuchel on the personnel: “Matthijs and Jamal are unavailable. We have to be careful with Raphaël Guerreiro. He had slight problems, we’ll have to look into that. We are closely monitoring which international players have had a lot of game time, such as Konrad Laimer, Minjae Kim and Alphonso Davies. We won’t make a decision until shortly before the game”

Tuchel on René Maric: “I know René from Leeds United and as Marco Rose’s assistant coach. We also met in Mainz. I wasn’t directly involved in the decision (to appoint him), that’s okay. I was informed, but not involved. It’s a good move”

Tuchel on Leon Goretzka: “We are very happy with him. He was in pain, but still gritted his teeth and played with a broken hand. It was impressive how he put himself into the service of the team. He has found a good position on the half-left side, where he plays between the #10 and the #6. There were discussions about him, but he persevered, kept his head up and has now found his form. I hope he proves that again tomorrow”

Tuchel on Irankunda: “Nestory is very quick, with big potential. We’ll see where his journey takes him. He’ll start at the highest youth level (second team)”

Tuchel on Thomas Müller: “We want him on the team. It’s clear that he wants to keep playing. Why shouldn’t he continue playing at the highest level? I see him very positively. He’s in great shape and everything is fine with him. Thomas is an icon for the club, a legend. He gets the maximum respect from us”

Tuchel on Manuel Neuer’s prospects with the national team: “This question will answer itself in May or June if Manu stays healthy. For now he has to stay calm and enjoy his comeback. Everything else will fall into place. The decision is not ours, but we will respect it.”

Tuchel on Joshua Kimmich: “There’s no reason for him not to play. He’s a key player who has our full confidence. We always want to offer a stable environment, particularly in difficult periods. The feedback from the national team coaches is that the top players are tired - mentally and physically. It’s not just about playing time but also the time travelling, in hotels or on the bus. We’ll have to see again how Minjae Kim and Alphonso Davies return and perform after extremely long travels. From next season there’ll be even more Champions League matches and the 2025 Club World Cup. That doesn’t just affect Joshua but many players. We’re the team that has to play on Friday tomorrow. That can’t be in the interests of the players or the game. It has to be done with joy. The situation is at the limit, maybe even over the limit”
