Really want the new steam deck. But I’m also use to gaming on a 4090 desktop and 4080 laptop so I know the performance experience won’t be enjoyable for AAA. But is it worth getting the deck for older games? Or at that point do I just stick to the switch?

What does modding the switch do
I have a pc for VR gaming and iracing, a gaming laptop which is bulky and unsuitable for my train trips not to mention the short battery life running a dedicated gpu. The switch games pricing is prohibitive for me and the switch doesn’t support my ar glasses without extra hardware. I use the steam deck for all my steam library games because it is light, portable and gives me 4 hrs playtime between charges with the games I am playing. It also works out of the box with my ar glasses so for me, totally worth it.
I use my desktop for iracing too!
Could always buy a controller and play the older games on the laptop with it.
I do that! But laptops usually have to be plugged in, so at an airport or on a plane is a no go
