Couple days ago I updated to the latest syatem software and all seemed fine. Have used the steam deck a little since then, but nothing intensive at all.
This evening it just won’t seem to turn on (at least not the screen). I’ve tried Google and Reddit searching, but nothing seems to work. Volume- plus power/elipses/any other button does nothing. Power + elipses etc, same. Nothing seems to actually get the screen back on or allow me to see in to a bios/restart menu at all.
I can however get it to power on in some fashion where the fans make noise and the track pads provide a feedback, so it’s got some power it seems.
I’m also able to get the thing to chime a beep when doing the power and options button at certain times, but again screen remains black with nothing else happening at all.
Amy other tips/advice?
Keep me posted.
I’ve got hope of something working, as the fans do kick in, I can power it on/off on that sense, along with being able to feel the haptic feedback of the touchpads. So I’m assuming it’s just to be screen that’s being dumb.
Nope didn’t work.
I’ll have to take it apart later tonight well see
Likewise nothing has worked yet either.
Connecting it to monitor gets me to use it, but as soon as I disconnect, it just seems to shut down and doesn’t want to boot. Fans can be heard, but clearly not doing anything else.
I’ve factory reset it since and nothing. Leaving it on charge now to see if that helps, very doubtful.
I’ve submitted a ticket to steam.
Further update, I’ve left it to now fully charge for a few hours and when I attempt to turn it on, I can faintly hear the electrical buzz/hiss attempting to start inside, the fan kicks on for less than half a second, then nothing happens.
When connected to an external monitor, it loads up fine.
My assumption is the screen is goosed/connection gone, so without an output to use, the steamdeck is just not powering on. But once an external monitor is connected, it has an output source so it’s happy to boot up it seems.
I tried letting the battery drain, I’ve tried booting from the original 64gb SSD.
And nothing seems to work. Screen is still black with no back light.
Both windows and steam is desktop mode cannot detect a second display.
Steam wants 185usd to attempt to fix it. So I guess she’s ded
Ouch! That’s a good chunk to fix. I’d be tempted to tinker myself before paying that.
