After updating SteamOS 3.5.5 and 3.5.7, me and many people experienced a crash and reboot with a screen saying Verifying installation after a few minutes of gaming.
All my Steam and Non-Steam games always crash, after trying all the methods I finally found a solution to my problem,
The way to fix this crashing is by increasing the size of the VRAM or UMA frame buffer from 1GB (default) to 4GB
You need to boot into the Steam Deck BIOS to access the UMA frame buffer setting:
1.Power off (Shutdown) your Steam Deck 2.Press and hold the power button and plus (+) button down until you hear the beep 3.Select Setup Utility from the menu Navigate to advanced 4.Find UMA Frame buffer size 5.Press A to select, choose the 4GB option 6.Click Save and Exit.
I don’t know technically why this fixed my crashing problem, but it worked and no need for an RMA,
So far it has worked on RDR 2, Watch Dogs 2, Sky Children of the Light, Eastward, Metro Exodus, Alan Wake and PES 2019.
Please correct me and give your opinion because I myself have only had SD for 3 months.
No, I didn’t have that problem, the game ran normally, without stuttering, somehow changing the UMA frame buffer size to 4gb fixed this random reboot problem.
