I’m currently losing my mind trying to find a VPN solution that works for me and my network. I bought a TP-Link ER707-M2 router maybe a bit too prematurely and it seems the VPN settings were not up to my hopes and wishes. I got Wireguard set-up after manually updating the router but there’s absolutely zero configuration or policies that can be set. TP-Link states (after searching for quite some time) that those are coming “Q1 next year or sooner or later” which is not really confidence inspiring. Running the VPN for my full network would come into issues with other users and things not working that I don’t want to deal with.

I’ve tried to setup a VPN on my TrueNas Scale device and utterly failed at it. I’m used to far more documentation for these kinds of things and it appears to be lacking a lot for a more novice user like me. Every single guide I could find is about connecting to my server from outside my network which is simple with Tailscale.

I purchased a Brume2 from GLI.net and I’m having issues with it as well, I believe to get it to work how I want it to, I’d have to use it as my main router or do a lot of hacky things that Mr.Novice here doesn’t feel comfortable with my potential success rate. Using it as my main router in this case just makes it so I wasted $180 on my beefier router. (I think I paid too much for the TP-Link router but it doesn’t appear to be for sale anywhere else yet that I could find? Don’t even know the MSRP). The “Drop-In VPN Gateway” advertising was possibly a little misleading or I was a little too hopeful.

So basically, I’m wondering if there is a way to get a VPN to work with SELECT devices on my network with some kind of hardware solution. I have a Raspberry Pi 3B and a Dell Optiplex Micro PC with an i5 6600T, both I’m currently not using anything for. Is there either something I could install on them or another hardware appliance I could use to setup a Wireguard VPN Client service for select devices on my network?

TL;DR: Issues setting up or finding a Wireguard VPN Client solution for select devices on my network. Looking for suggestions.
