I’m an old Lions fan. I met Eric Hipple (QB) at the Silverdome when I was in second grade. Our hero was Doug English (NT). The neighborhood kids and I used to pretend we were Billy Sims as we jumped over snow piles.
I’ve gone through a lot of ups and downs over the past 45 years of Lions fandom, and I’ve arrived at this point: I only get mad after a Lions loss in three circumstances.
-
We get jobbed by the refs. See Samkon Gado, Leigh Bodden, Justin Tucker, Aaron Rodgers fake facemask
-
We quit. See 2006 thanksgiving game against Falcons
-
We do something stupid. See Morningwheg taking the wind, or Millen drafting BMW
What I saw yesterday was the defense continuing to play hard and with energy. I give them credit. They have subpar talent. We were the 31st defense last year, and did not draft any top tier help at pass rush or cornerback. They fought hard. I am not upset. This team is making improvements, no question.
I’ll say this till I’m blue in the face. Mornhinwig taking the wind was a good call. Accepting the penalty on 3rd down instead of forcing a long fg (45+ if I remember) was the bad call.
