I’m talking like the year 2040+ cause I can imagine starting up a franchise takes a lot of time and money.
West:
-
Vancouver, BC: I feel this team should finally be reconsidered after losing one so long ago. Also, expanding at least another NBA team in Canada would help the business reach a broader audience and make the game even more international than it already is
-
St Louis, MO: They lost their team to Atlanta back in the 60s so it’s been long overdue! Beautiful city with a lot of sports love
-
Monterrey, MX:. Kind of the same thing as Vancouver but a bit more of a stretch. It’s in Mexico so it expands to a bigger fanbase internationally but might be a bit too far out to be a realistic spot. Also, Mexico City is TOO far out to be considered. I could also see some other considerations for MX not too far from Texas as well.
East:
- Richmond, VA: As someone who’s from Virginia, I can tell you how unique it is when it comes to geography. On one end you’ll find some of the best Yock and crab in the far south, to the north you’ll find the DC suburbs, and out west you can ride horses on the Blue Ridge mountains. Now imagine putting those vast cultures smack dap in the heart of the state. Tickets will write themselves.
- Louisville, KY: I mean, you already have one of the most historic college basketball teams located there, imagine the number of elite college athletes from the state that would want to play for that franchise.
- Tampa Bay, FL: This one I’m not too confident on but it would be interesting to see the NBA join along with the MLB, NHL, and NFL there already.
Let me know what you think!
Nome, AK
I recently saw the documentary The Grizzlie Truth, and I am all in on Vancouver getting an expansion team.
Edit: the trailer if anyone is interested
Gary, Indiana
Anchorage, Alaska or Gary, Indiana
Why is Mexico City not a viable option?
If you are thinking Mexico, I would probably prefer something like Tijuana BC. Much more of a border state and basically becomes a team for San Diego. I don’t think players would be all that to happy to live in Mexico lol so something closer to the border would be nice for them. I would probably prefer Vegas over Seattle but you can’t go wrong with either.
