I was thinking of getting a steam deck to play lower res PC games or pixel games, like stardew valley for example, and other older games that are only released on steam. Some visual novels as well. Is it worth it to get an OLED? Or will LCD work just fine?

OLED all the way. They will look better too.
Oled for sure, simpler games like stardew valley, terraria, shovel knight etc will net you potentially 10 hours of battery compared to 7 on lcd. Not to mention for less demanding games like that, youll be able to make good use of the 90hz screen.
