The past three weeks, Wilks’ defense has been elite at everything. It has given up a league-low 10 points per game, and 7 of those 30 points were a pick-six from Brock Purdy. It also has generated 5 sacks per game – 2nd most in the league. Plus an average opponent’s quarterback rating of 66.0 – 3rd lowest in the league. Plus 71 rushing yards per game – 3rd lowest in the league.

His defense, which is clearly capable of playing at an elite level, was playing poorly. Tackling issues, a lack of pressure, big plays allowed. These were very publicly criticized.

With that said, he has since turned that around and defense has been playing at an elite level. There’s nothing wrong with criticizing poor performance.

      Tackling issues,

Missed tackle rate was he exact same as last year.

      a lack of pressure,

The pressure rate was better this year, even before he moved out of the booth.

      big plays allowed.

      They allowed the fewest.

The one most usually cited was the Addison TD, where everyone simply refuses to acknowledge that Wilkes schemed Ward right into the path of that ball, only for Addison to rip it out of his hands. That’s not on Wilkes.

      These were very publicly criticized.

In a very poor and inaccurate manner that was ignorant to other DCs also having an occasional bad game (C.McCoy, J.Stidham, Ryans vs Burrow).

The fact that you made so many inaccurate claims in your criticism proves this.

There’s nothing wrong with criticizing poor performance.

Sure, so when Wilkes struggles against an A-game Burrow&Chase then you also have to recognize Ryans did the same.
Or how Ryans struggled against Jarrett Stidham, etc.
