My setup is router connected via Ethernet to wall -> from another room Ethernet outlet is connected to a netgear network extender (one you plug in the wall and makes the house power grid a wired connection) -> the other netgear network extender plugged into the room where the PC is -> which is then connected via Ethernet to the PC

This set up reduced my ping greatly for weeks, and everything was working fine, however 2-3 days ago I started experiencing packet loss issues while gaming.

I have done these things to try to fix the issue:

  1. Change Ethernet ports in the router
  2. Switched old cables to brand new ones
  3. Reset the modem
  4. Reset the router 4.b) tried to make a QoS setting, and a priority rule, but idk if I knew how to do it correctly
  5. Reset the netgear network extenders (The following I’ve done on the computer and I don’t know the actual names of things but I’ll try to explain)
  6. Updated network adapters
  7. Unticked everything from network properties except IPv4
  8. Updated my graphics card
  9. Reinstalled the game
  10. Changed to the Google domain thing (the 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 thing)
  11. Did the DNS cache thing (idk if that’s what it’s called or if it even does anything for packet loss)
  12. Reported a bug to Riot Games

The game is League of Legends, idk if this is a service provider problem or problem with the game server or is the problem with my setup… I am waiting for a long Ethernet cable to be delivered so I can connect the pc directly to the router but if that doesn’t work then I don’t know what to do, and the game is completely unplayable because game lag happens every 20 seconds for 4-5 seconds of lag, the FPS doesn’t drop and the ping doesn’t drop but there is lag and mouse is still moving so I’ve been told it is definitely packet loss.

Can anyone help me? ☺️

    Ping your router to see if the issue is in your network. If it’s not, it’s probably your isp.

    A tool like PingPlotter makes this easy, but windows has a pathping command that works too.

    Also keep in mind that ICMP is notoriously untrustworthy, but if you see all replies failing after a specific host then you have a pretty good idea where the issue is at.
