Hi all,

So I’ve just got the OLED deck after not having used the LCD model at all. Very impressed so far! I decided to play RDR2 first since I never finished it on PC or Console.

I want to play these bigger, more demanding games at 40 fps as this is what I’m now used to from playing PS5 1st party titles.

RDR2 runs mostly fine at 40 fps unless near any lakes. Looking around this appears to be due to the Vulkan driver. I’ve switched it to DX12 and it does indeed run a lot better! I am however reading a lot of older posts about crashes and other issues while using DX12. Has anyone recently played through it with DX12? I’m just worried I may run into issues later in the game.

I’ve had some crashing issues when playing Metro Exodus and other games with DX12 on my LCD Deck but that’s all. And yes I did find on the internet people complaining about this as well.

So this is more an issue with DX12 on Deck in general and not specifically a RDR2 issue. I guess I’ll just see how I get on. The occasional crash is not a dealbreaker and I can always change it back.

Yeah the problem isn’t RDR2. Also I got the game during Autumn Sales I can’t wait to play it on OLED :)

I went to protondb and saw a good set up . I have higher settings and sitting around 35fps

Cryobyte33 has a good guide on YouTube and one of the settings shoot for 40 fps.

Good thing about red dead I felt it was a slower paced game… and it only runs at 30 fps on the PS5 if I remember correctly since they never updated any patch or anything. I just got my first steam deck as well and I’m tinkering a good bit with settings. In all honesty, shooting for a smooth 30-40 fps has been my target for these larger AAA games and it still feels fairly smooth
