Wild card team doesn’t get any big money for participating (likely will be last) but gets paid minimum wage. They do get money if they win games or get a place other than last.

Dota organizers invite one or two wild card teams that are most interesting or fan favorites.

This way we could have really interesting games and story lines, for example team comprised of ex legends, team comprised only of females, team that was really good all year but maybe didn’t qualify so gets invited etc.
