This is for those interested in possible seeding scenarios.
The Bucks win against the Heat on Tuesday and they get the top seed. This would be based on a better record than anyone in Group C and they would have a better point differential than Indiana (they both currently have a 39 total point differential so by simply winning by 1 point they would increase it to 40 and win via the point differential tiebreaker).
If the Bucks lose to the Heat on Tuesday things get a little interesting:
If the Bucks lose and the Knicks win then it comes down to a point differential tiebreaker between the three teams at 3-1. (Point differential listed below.)
If the Bucks lose, and the Knicks lose then the Heat would have the H2H win against the Bucks and thus win Group B.
Point differential for potential 3-1 Eastern Conference teams.
Milwaukee 3-0 (+39)
Orlando 3-1. (+22)
Knicks. 2-1 (+18)
Miami 2-1 (+11)
Nets 2-1 (+8)
Cleveland 2-1 (+6)
Boston 2-1 (0)
The point differential can be used for any tiebreak scenarios in which the bucks lose against the Heat (remember if the bucks win they’re the #1 seed). You wouldn’t have to worry about every team on the list because one team would have to win Group B and one would have to win Group C.
Right. It would come down to point differential then. If the Knicks win the scenario would be bucks beat the Knicks who beat the Heat who beat the bucks. Whoever had the best point differential would win the group. If the second best point differential was higher than a 3-1 team from another group then that team would play the winner of Group A.
