I’ve seen some takes floating around here/Twitter that the Bulls just need to fire Billy and they’ll be way better. I just think that’s flat-out ridiculous, and here’s why: The Bulls have ZERO top-15 guys on the team, and two of our three best players cannot shoot 3’s and don’t really play well in transition. The role players that surround our “big 3” (lol) cannot shoot 3’s consistently except for Carter. What coach on planet Earth would be able to cook up a top-15 offense with that roster? Hint: the answer is nobody. I’ll agree with people who say that Billy is not a very good offensive coach and isn’t very creative on that end of the floor (seems to be a common theme with Bulls coaches for some reason), but he is at least a solid defensive coach, and most players I’ve seen that have ever talked about him have nothing but great things to say (outside of Zach, who hasn’t bad-mouthed Billy at all, but he is allegedly still upset about being benched over a year ago when he was 1-14 or something like that. And then you have some people who somehow think that coaches like Spo or Pop wouldn’t have done the exact same thing).

All of that being said, I do think Donovan shouldn’t be the coach of this team for much longer because of how non-creative he is on offense (and because it’s pretty obvious the whole team, including Billy, is checked out), but please, let’s not act like this team is going to turn a corner if all we do is let go of Billy. This roster needs to be torn down completely (outside of the young guys), and if AK/ME don’t at least trade Zach and Caruso at the deadline (I would throw DeMar and Vuc in there as well, but I’d imagine their contracts are more difficult to trade) then I’d argue they’re no better (if not worse) than GarPax. This roster is inherently flawed, and the only solution to this problem is for the front office to finally acknowledge their mistakes and get as many assets as they can for our best players.

And if we really wanna talk about the main problem, then it’s really the Reinsdorfs. But I don’t see them selling the team anytime soon, so I’m not even gonna get into that….

I think that a coach is more important than most people think. The general consensus is that none of the players are maximizing their potential and that’s directly due to coaching. We’ve seen what this squad can do when they’re 100%. Look at what Sean Payton has done to the broncos
