I’d like to try to have a level headed (reddit) discussion about Evan Mobley and the construction of the Cavs going forward. I’ll start by saying Evan looked awesome tonight (I’m a fan and know he has great potential). What I think the next step is more consistency on the offensive end going forward. The prevailing thought since he’s been drafted is he’ll eventually become a perennial all-star (not just flash in the pan). Now, that could be tough with the ball-dominant backcourt we have for him to show his chops on a regular basis, but how does this team figure a way to let Evan do his thing within the flow of the offense, while at the same time being constructed in a manner that has two offensive minded PG’s that need to get theirs and take over games? At some point if EM is going to be a top 24 player in the league he needs to do what he did tonight even with a fully healthy roster.
What irks me a bit is when he goes 15/15/X, which is awesome, but the prevailing thought is, well he has to take a step back for others. If he’s the future all-star we all see, he needs to eventually elevate himself within the scheme to fill the gaps and be the guy when we need.
Curious what others thoughts are on this. And as always, Go Cavs.
I see what you’re saying. Mitchell is here now, and that’s how I view the team, I don’t get into the debate about his future. He’s a Cavalier now. Not saying you’re getting into that debate. But for the sake of Mobley I feel he needs to find his way with the current team, as well as when they’re fully healthy. He should also be consistent enough when players are down that he can begin to carry the load.
