I was a super-fan of Tribes 2. I even still play it today.
Tribes Ascend was a punch in the face to a fan like me who knew what Tribes truly was. I am not excited at all for the next punch.
I have no idea what to think.
In one hand, I really liked Tribes Ascend a decade ago, there is something about the Spinfusor that just scratched an itch I never knew I had.
And a breebIn the other, I remember the game going into a death spiral because Hi-Rez kept releasing OP weapons that took way too long to grind for, then nerfing them as soon as most of the players grinded for enough free currency to unlock them, basically making people rush to buy them with real money to get a temporary advantage.
Then they ended the game to focus on Smite and Paladins.Maybe a miracle will happen and this will revive Tribes, or it will die in the same pit as every other attempt to bring back arena shooters in the last decade.
I’m getting kind of Splitgate vibes from this in the sense that it’s a revival of a old style of FPS that I’m not sure will have enough interest with the gamers of today to get much traction.
Prophecy Games is a sub-studio under Hi-Rez that was previously in charge of the development of Starsiege Raiders, a cancelled Battle Royale game, and Starsiege: Deadzone, an Extraction shooter.
