I’ve seen several discussions about it but thought it might be nice to have a sort of top level discussion about it, gather all the data and get everyone’s input.

Symptom: USB-C drives plugged directly into the Steam Deck OLED will not show up/mount. It is as if you didn’t plug anything in at all. Plug the same drive into the LCD Deck? Pops right up.

The Deck will charge from the port - and bios will see a compatible boot device and you can boot to recovery.

If you plug pretty much any hub into the Deck? Any USB drives connected to the hub WILL show up.

Thoughts, fixes, more data - all appreciated. Thanks!

I had this issue with my OLED deck, but for me it was fixed with the 3.5.7 update… not sure if because it needed to update after I got everything set up and not during the initial setup (Setup/Update > 3.5.6(?) > First Login > Discovered issue > Updated to 3.5.7> Issue Resolved), where as some people have gotten theirs after the update was made available and got it updated to 3.5.7 during the initial setup process (Setup/Update > 3.5.7 > First Login > Discovered issue > No update available).

    Fixes?

I think I saw a couple posts where it was fixed after the user switched over to the preview build and then switched back, presumably because it might be updating the bios and os each time it does that.

There is also a workaround where you can boot into the bios, and in the Advanced>USB Configuration screen, change the USB Dual Role Device setting from DRD to XHCI.
