hi guys! i didn’t use my car for a day and when i was pressing the brake to start my car, it was hard. i eventually pushed harder and push to start which worked. it’s the first time it happened and thought it was odd. it’s been about 30°F where I’m at the past days so is it because of the weather being rlly cold?

is this something serious or it’s fine? didn’t really notice any other issue once it started.

thank you guys! :)

The brake pedal is only easy to push in the first place because the system uses vacuum assist to reduce the mechanical effort required from the driver. Basically, vacuum from the running engine makes it easier to push the pedal. When you turn off the engine there’s no more vacuum, except what’s stored in a chamber. Next time you park and turn the engine off, pump the brake pedal a couple times and you’ll notice it goes from easy to hard within a couple pumps. That’s what happened after you didn’t drive for a couple days except it just naturally bled off over that time.

oh wow that’s a reallyyy good explanation for someone who doesn’t know much abt cars, thank you!! if that’s the case, does this mean it’s nothing serious and just happens naturally? cuz it’s the first time it happened
