Remember all the uproar about MSI 2022? People say that ping is extremely important, and as such, it was unfair to subject T1 to 30 ping as it wasn’t what they were used to.

It got me thinking. Doesn’t that mean that LCK has had a massive advantage since the Korean server was created? They’re the only server that gets single digit ping, which is a massive advantage when playing in tournaments. This meant that all their talent got to hone their mechanics in tournament conditions, basically, which is not the case for any other region.

This is while every other server in the world has ping being different from tournament realm meaning that the timing of combos is different, reactions, etc are different. Like Jayce and Irelia for example on near 0 ping are played very different from 30 ping.

But…but scrims! But…but Champions Queue!

That doesn’t affect the development of mechanics and solo queue prodigies. Mechanics are honed in solo queue. Not to mention, scrims and champions queue aren’t accessible to most players on the server. I’ll need actual arguments based on fact, not emotional arguments stemming from being biased towards LCK.

EDIT: Some arguments for me to debunk

Yes, and? A tournament is expected to have low ping so players can pull off most skilled plays. Having a whole tournament bend over so one team can play 35ms is funny

Not when one region gets to have year long practice on near tournament realm level ping when no other server and league gets this. And tf you mean bend over? EVERY team had to play on 35 ms, because EVERY league apart from LCK has their solo queue on 35 ms.

Every region can play on 0-10 ping in solo queue. Its not like Korea has gatekept 0 ping from everyone, in NA you get 0-10 ping in Chicago because the servers are in Chicago, same with EU where you’d get 0-10 ping in Amsterdam because thats where the servers are. Korean players don’t have an advantage because they have ping that is closest to tournament realm ping, because every region has this depending on your location.

Okay, but LCS isn’t located in Chicago, LEC isn’t located in Amsterdam. Disingenuous argument.

The LPL players dont play on single digit ping when they play on KR server so the ping increase doesnt affect them much. I’m not a pro player but I play 1 digit ping on VN server and when I come to PH server to play with my friends it took my at least 2 hours to adapt with their 30~50 ping and even then I can still feel the delay so idk how is the ping is not a valid excuse but still T1 lost the series so no point saying that now.

But the ping DECREASE affects mechanics and combos MASSIVELY.

Maybe we have different definition of “mechanics”, but in my opinion it is anything that requires fast movement, aiming, reaction time, etc. At the highest level, every pro will be able to execute any combo consistently, kite close to perfect, have the necessary reaction time to dodge skill shots, etc. Therefore I think mechanics (at least how I define it) is really overrated.

On a micro scale, pros’ skill level will be separated based on their ability to identify the correct combo or mechanical play for the infinite possible scenarios that can arise in a league of legends game. I think this is the “mechanics” you are thinking of, and it has nothing to do with ping.

Think about the infinite possible scenarios that can arise in a game, each with their own optimal “micro decision” for the player depending on the situation. A “micro decision” can be where to click your cursor, how to trade in lane, the timing and usage of your abilities, etc. In how many of these scenarios would having 5 ping instead of 30 ping change the optimal “micro decision”? In my opinion, not many. It really doesn’t make that big of a difference in how the game is played. So I don’t agree that Korean teams have a big advantage by playing on 5 ping.
