First week of the Portal was pretty bad. Stutters, connection issues, nearly sent it back.

Did a bit of tweaking, hardwired the TV in, removed one mesh box that wasn’t even needed, restarted the Portal, and now it’s the best handheld I’ve ever had.

OLED Deck does look gorgeous - and I actually prefer the analogue stick positions on Deck - but the Portal’s screen is absolute perfect size. I can’t believe how much better it is for handheld gaming. I can also read every bit of text, no matter how small.

The biggest thing? I can play my entire backlog of PS5 games (all digital) in 1080p, flawlessly.

With the Deck, I’ve re-bought so many games I already own on PS5, only to get frustrated at how small the screen is. Cyberpunk wasn’t easy going from 55” OLED TV to the Deck lcd.

The Portal feels natural in screen size.

I am a bit gutted because I might end up selling the Deck but I’m leaning towards just keeping it at the desk as a little PC connected to the monitor for the odd RTS game, etc.

I know this is a negative post but it’s just a story worth sharing. I’m also jealous of any OLED Deck owners! You do have the better device right there.

You know you can just remote play on the Deck, right?

With the smaller screen he specifically didn’t like…
