I’ve been daydreaming about buying a 986 boxster as a cheap weekend car. I rented a 2014 Boxster S from turo to test my conviction, and I feel more conflicted than before.

I took the boxster out on a 3-4 hour drive in the mountains and back home on the highway.

The Boxster definitely handles better than the Tesla— not much body roll, more planted on the ground. The exhaust note and convertible top are awesome and only the Porsche has them.

The Tesla (rwd long range too, the slowest one) feels faster on the highway and doesn’t feel that much worse in handling.

Is that it though? I can’t help but feel that I don’t need a Porsche. Maybe the Tesla handles worse than I remember.

Anyway, I have the car for two more days. Anything in particular I should try to notice?

My first Porsche was a 981 Boxster S, and it truly stirred my emotions. If you’re solely gauging it by 0-60 times or contrasting its torque with an EV, you’re overlooking the heart and soul of what makes a Porsche special.
