So I switched over to Wayland a few months ago and honestly I’m never going back, Xorg just doesn’t offer the same smooth window movement that Wayland has, especially with my monitor setup (2 monitors at different refresh rates). The latest Nvidia drivers, 545, absolutely broke Wayland for me. Electron apps such as Discord have heavy stuttering issues on GNOME and Hyprland. The thing that sucks the most is that my main desktop environment, KDE Plasma refuses to start at all, just sending me back to my GDM login screen. All of these issues have kind of driven me to using Windows until I find some way to resolve them. I never had these issues with the 535 drivers, does anyone have any possible solutions?

    GNOME

    That’s your problem right there

    GDM login screen

GDM on KDE? No wonder it doesn’t work. You need SDDM

545 won’t boot into Wayland/KDE for me either. Black screen, monitors idle. No video output. Xorg is the only thing that works.

I’ve tried all these supposed fixes adding things nvidia-drm did nothing. fbdev=1 actually caused the system to not boot at all. Wouldn’t make it passed bootloader.

Whether or not Wayland works at all with Nvidia seems like a diceroll. I’ve done countless hours of research and it really seems like for some folks it just doesn’t work. Nobody can pinpoint why yet.
