Grades are as follows:

  • for highly confident that it was a good pick
  • + for semi confident of a good pick
  • ? for still unsure either way
  • - for unconfident it was a good pick and
  • X for highly confident it was a bad pick

Grades should be based on level of play and where they were picked.

My grades so far

? 1(13) Van Ness- Seen flashes, otherwise this would be a -. Gary like trajectory would be the hope.

+ 2(11) Musgrave- Guy seemed to be always open. Love his potential, biggest game changer at TE since Finley.

2(19) Reed- Already one of our best receivers. Gadget player who we are starting to give the ball to even in the run game ala Cobb/Deebo Samuel.

? 3(15) Kraft- Liked what I’ve seen the last few weeks. Long way to go though.

? 4(14) Wooden- Maybe I don’t pay enough attention but I’m not sure I’ve even heard his name this year. PFF/GTP seems to think he’s playing really well though so maybe I’m out of the loop.

+ 5(15) Clifford - I’m giving him a plus based on his pre-season play and being able to secure backup spot. Not easy to do as 5th round rookie QB. Maybe this is hopium and he should just be a ? for now.

5(25) Wicks- 5th round receivers shouldn’t be playing as well as Wicks is right now. Highest graded offensive player on the team according to PFF/GPT.

6(2) Brooks - Already one of the best players on defense. Has stepped up big. You don’t expect 6th round rookies to do that.

? 6(30) Carlson - Has been solid and has shown a big leg. Still ? because decent kickers as 6th round picks is a reach. Will see how he kicks in the cold/snow.

7(15) Valentine - CB is one of the hardest positions to adjust to in the NFL. How many first round CBs have we seen go up in flames? Valentine has been rock solid and has had to step up with Alexander out in a big way. Packers must have a ton of confidence in him with considering the Douglas trade. Regardless, already more production out of a 7th rounder than you normally see.

X 7(18) Nichols III - Got injured and released in preseason. Could have possibly panned out but never going to know. Either way, didn’t and won’t contribute to the team. This is not a knock on the draft decision because you can’t predict who gets hurt.

+ 7(25) Johnson Jr. - Has been forced to play a lot with Ford out. His PFF/GTP grades aren’t amazing but for a 7th round rookie he’s doing more than I think we expected.

? 7(39) DuBose- Beat out some stiff competition from undrafted players like Bonds in the preseason. Only practice squad guy but considering how well our other receivers have done can you really blame him for not making the 53? Some could argue they kept him because he was a draft pick but the Packers are not afraid of rostering UFAs.

Yeah, it’s nice to see that only two of the picks we can probably say right now were bad picks ( Nichols and probably DuBose) and both of those were in the 7th round. I’d argue usually there are some higher round picks we can definitively call busts by midseason the first year.
