Well that’s standard for any court really. Nobody is above the court, well except politicians, to be fair, Wolfire does have a point with suppressing competition, its pretty much text book what any company does when they control a certain market. Steam does it on pc, their fans loves to do that when a competitor comes up. i mean look at their fans how they react towards epic. while ea and ubi? nah their stores and launchers just isn’t even worth a challenge to a installer. i believe nintendo and sony did the same but i may be incorrect, haven’t used a console in many years

What a fucking joke. Steam is not installed by default in any computer. Windows is. Android Store is. Apple store is.

They earn billions for having done fucking nothing in 20 years.

That’s not the point of the lawsuit tho, it’s that Steam allegedly wants to de-list games that are offered for cheaper anywhere outside of Steam. Forcing publishers to raise their prices everywhere even in platforms where they get a bigger cut of revenue or miss out on Steam sales.

w/ the steam deck it’s intended as a console that just works ootb, and they’ve given you the ability to just wipe it and install anything else, far better than nintendo/ps/xbox

I mean, windows will have their store, cause they own it. Chromebooks will have Android stores on chrome os, cause they own it. Steam deck doesn’t come with steam pre installed?

If you’re saying windows comes with android and Apple store, I never had those install at all.

Note - I’m not saying this lawsuit isn’t a joke, it kind of is.

If you think Valve is anti-trust now, wait until you see prices slashed by 30% across the board. Nobody will buy a console ever again, among other things.

I may be out of the loop, are they planning some kind of price cut? Just wondering what the 30% thing was alluding to. Sorry if this sounds contrarian, I don’t mean it that way, I just genuinely don’t know :)

Cutting out Valve’s 30% will lead - not immediately, but eventually - to a 30% price drop, one would imagine. At first, publishers will be happy to make that instead of Valve or paying a similar price for physical sales, but eventually capitalism.

Why would you ever think this? If people are willing to spend 60 in a game then it doesn’t matter were the money goes, nobody is going to lower their prices because of that. We already have great games below that and it didn’t affect at all the price of other games.

Your naive if you think consoles will just die, a $500 console is much more accessible than a $3000 dollar pc when you then have to sink another $500+ in year or two time

The 90s called, they want their PC prices back.

To be fair, a gaming PC is going to cost more than a console, but not $3k unless you’re going top of the line. My last desktop made it five years before I started considering an upgrade and it was under 1k.

My laptop was a budget model (around $700) and matches any console.

Idk why anyone thinks consoles will ever die. People just don’t want to think about buying or building or maintaining or upgrading a PC.

I love my plug-and-play experience with my Xbox and Game Pass and xCloud. I have zero desire to deal with drivers and shaders and minimum requirements and recommend requirements and all that nonsense.

Pretty much. As an adult with less free time than when I was younger I don’t always want to put in the effort of troubleshooting, picking out parts, and all that other stuff when I can just hook something up to the TV and be mostly done with it.

theres a number of other stores, and no one forces you to be on any store anyway. you can put the game on your own website.

this should not be an anti-trust issue. you dont like steam taking 30% cut? dont go to steam then…

The issue isn’t even The Steam platform, that i Gather

Valve has a policy that Steam Keys Cannot be sold cheaper on other platforms

      However

Developers can still generate and sell their own Keys, on other platforms, At a lower price (Like on GoG, Humble store)

Theres nothint stopping a Dev from using multiple platforms, they just can’t distribute Steam specific keys on another storefront cheaper

The fact this suit has gone this far is honestly absurd.

Steam has a policy that you can’t sell steam keys elsewhere lower than what you’re selling them for on steam. This makes complete sense. This suit shouldn’t have any legs…yet here we are.

I suppose it’ll be interesting to see this play out, at least.
