We are languishing in 10th, 8 points behind ‘struggling’ Man United. Defense is leaking goals, attack is largely misfiring and players are losing discipline.
The mentality has also become like that of a mid-table team. Nothing in and around the club screams world class at the moment.
I just don’t find many differences between Chelsea and say, Crystal Palace (apart from the wages and all). As fans, should we also have a mid-table mindset? Satisfied with draws against the big boys and finishing the season with 45-50 points?
Season 1 without Abramovich = 12th. Season 2 = mid table. If they don’t do anything next season then it is well and truly over and they have returned to factory settings
What you really should be asking is if Chelsea is now part of the other 14 and not the big 6
They’re about as midtable a team as Villa are a top 4 team. One has had a terrible 2023 and one has had an amazing 2023
100%, which is interesting with all the money spent!
our fanbase is so peak they need to accept that it’s a project that will take time, or keep your expectations high and be consistently disappointed when it isnt working. we’re playing good football but we have a lot of talent from our young players that need to take time to gel
Nah we lost our heads against Newcastle but we’ve shown our potential recently, our team are just very young and still getting to know each other. There’s a good chance we’ll pick up steam as the season goes on especially without any European football to worry about. In the long term I’d be surprised if our banter era lasted half as long as Arsenal/Man United’s.
If you could somehow be 10.5^th then you’d truly be in the middle.
Chelsea aren’t “midtable,” they are “underperforming wealthy club.” The difference between Palace and Chelsea is that Chelsea can hope to regain their previous heights whereas Palace probably can’t compete to win the PL or the CL in the near future.
Firmly. They have 16 points from a possible 39, and look who’ve they’ve beaten - Luton, Fulham, and Burnley. Yes they beat Spurs who completely imploded, and pulled off dogged draws against Liverpool, Arsenal, and City, but those look like outliers compared to their other performances.
So much criticism has been launched at United who are 8 points clear of Chelsea, but United are playing in the CL, they aren’t doing well in that competition but they’ve had a similarly horrible injury crisis to navigate as Chelsea while playing mid week and are in a respectable position.
I’m stunned that Chelsea, having finished 12th last season, squandered their soft opening schedule. Obviously we still have a little over 2/3 of the season left but do Chelsea look like they can overcome a now 12 point gap between them and Villa? There might be 5 CL spots this season but I don’t see Chelsea challenging for one.
The decisions made led us here. I don’t want us to be here, but you have to think long term with how the team is currently structured. I don’t think even Mbappe or Oshimen would solve this team in its current iteration.
