Dobbs is on the Ryan Fitzpatrick career path.
I don’t think, at this point in his career, it makes sense to sign him to be anything but a bridge starter with the expectation that a rookie will probably eventually take his job. You don’t really sign a guy like Dobbs expecting him to take a huge leap. You might ride him out for longer than you’d expected if he has the hot hand, but he’s not really shown himself to be the sort of guy you go into a season without having a contingency plan ready.
So giving Dobbs a full offseason as the #1 won’t help him make a leap?
It might. But I wouldn’t bet on it.
I’d be cool with him starting if he wins the job, but would still want to spend an early round pick on a QB.
