Hi to all. You can get the full story down there (for whose that are interested).

I got here an old Fiat Punto 55 (176) with no factory premade cabling for Immobilizer. So i want to install genuine Fiat Immobilizer on that.

I got a working set of ECU, Immobilizer and Key. They work as intended because i tested them all on another car (the car reads the code correctly and starts, it cannot start with another key). The new ECU is the IAW 16F.E3 coupled with it’s immobilizer unit and coded key.

Is there someone that tried something like that? Someone can help me somehow? Thank you a lot.

A friend of mine got an old Punto 55 (Model 176 with FIRE 1.1 I.E. engine with Magneti Marelli IAW 6F.SB ECU) and is trying to take care of that car at its best. Some weeks ago someone stole it by simply jump start and got an accident, so my friend was capable to get it’s car back after police found it.

To repair the damage he got to a bodyshop to also repaint the whole car. After two weeks it got a nice looking red Fiat Punto back to his house. The bad luck doesn’t end there because after only some day after the car came back, they tried to stole it again. This time for some reason they can’t get far, so the car was left some blocks away from his house.

Now my friend brought the car to me to get some cabling repaired because of the damage took from the thiefs. Some door locks and the wheel lock were damaged so we found a used set from eBay for a really good price. All locks, one common key with immobilizer chip paired with ECU and immobilizer chip reader. It was a really good price and it was with all the locks and the same key. Perfect!

I started to get the cables repaired but i really wanted to get the immobilizer working, so if someone wants to steal it again it will be more difficult than just jump starting. So i tried to find some information on internet but not so much.

That car is one of the last existing with no immobilizer from the factory, so I need to get it working is to get everything connected as factory. The only informations i got are the pinout for the IAW 8F and 16F ECUs, where i can see that the pin 7 is dedicated for communicating with the immobilizer unit.

I also got some information about the pinout about the immobilizer unit so i tried to connect the +12v, +12v switched, GND and also that communication pin to the ECU. Something changed, as i can see in the dashboard. But i still can’t get the car to start.

I was thinking maybe the unit needs the resisting load from the CODE lamp on the dashboard to send the ‘ok’ to the ECU but I’m not sure. The only other thing I am thinking is about some incompatibility with any sensor or some cabling made slightly different. That’s why i need a little help from you.

Thanks a lot and have a nice day!
