I’ve been using an ASUS RT-AC68U as a router (no WiFi) for a long time, with an AT&T ONT and router (in passthrough) behind it, and a Ubiquiti UAP-AC-Pro WAP for WiFi.
I’d like to learn more network fu and set up VLANs (IOT, cameras) and wonder about a good and inexpensive solution to replace the ASUS.
FWIW I’m a long-time UNIX & Linux user comfortable with sshing, configs etc. but not really network-savvy beyond being able to setup and troubleshoot basic setups pretty well. I have the WAP, a PC, NAS (Docker containers and NASy stuff), and PiHole Pi wired to the router, everything else WiFi (printers, Pis, IOT crap, Alexa, HomePod, Wiim, TV, PC and Mac laptops…).
Seems like EdgeRouters are the way, any recs on models (or alternatives), vendors (deals today?), and good how-to YouTube series much appreciated.
