This thing just crossed my mind.
I’m wondering whether or not it’s possible that other teams will start to be hesitant to sign ‘Heat-grown’ players in the offseason, because of the culture - kind of thinking like it would be more of a situational or a system kind of thing. Many of the players the Heat sign were long shots to have an NBA career to begin with.
The organization has signed many players through the years that were undrafted free agents. A large part of the players have flourished; Duncan Robinson, Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, Caleb Martin and Haywood Highsmith have all been very impactful for the Heat.
Many of the players that played a good contract year, went on to sign bigger contracts and a lot of the players didn’t meet their value. Kendrick Nunn, Jae Crowder, Gabe Vincent and PJ Tucker for example.
Does this sound any reasonable or am I just a fucking idiot?
No, they’re still gonna sign players from the Heat. What the coaching and scouting staff do isn’t mystical.
It’s just that the Heat put them in the best situations to succeed in their role for this team, and they don’t always get those opportunities in the the other teams they play with, that doesn’t mean anyone is being tricked.
