Mechanical Engineering Versus Technical Degree

I’m not sure what to do in terms of becoming a mechanic. I know that I want to own my own mechanics shop one day but I’m not sure how to get to that point. My 2 main options are getting my Mechanical Engineering degree from a 4 year university or getting my 2 year degree from a Technical School. I see benefits and problems with both sides and I’m not sure which route to take. Is there anyone who has done one or the other? I would love some insight on how it has help or hindered your journey.
